Team description

The responsibility of the R&D Chassis team is:

1. Development of chassis parts and systems (suspension, tires, steering, brake, wheels, shifter, steering wheel, …) to achieve the highest driving performance and quality at a competitive price.
2. Local development of chassis parts for vehicles built in Toyota’s European assembly plants. This activity is done in close cooperation with local suppliers and Toyota Motor Corporation in Japan.
3. Investigation and pre-development of new European technologies.
4. Development & testing of vehicle dynamics performance (ride comfort, handling, steering, brake).

Your responsibilities

The main expectation from a candidate in this area is to successfully support chassis systems and parts development. Typical activities:

• Design the system & parts to achieve target performance in multiple chassis areas like suspension, tyres, wheels, steering wheel, shifter, …
• Design and validate the vehicle dynamics performance, including brake control or power steering assist
• Simultaneously engineer with our stylists in the development of components contributing to total vehicle style, like wheels, steering wheel, shifter, …
• Simultaneously engineer with other stakeholders in R&D
• Coordinate development activities with vehicle evaluation teams
• Lead development with Toyota counterparts (e.g. R&D, quality, purchasing, etc.)
• Cooperate with suppliers to complete development tasks
• Pursue cost and weight reduction activities with suppliers and purchasing support
• Research and propose new technologies in the chassis domain
• Proactively benchmark activities for chassis system and vehicle performance
• Review chassis performance, seeking further improvement for end customer
• Support field investigations & troubleshooting

• You are fluent in English (TME’s business language)

• You have a Master’s in Mechanical Engineering (or Automotive Engineering)

• You have mechanical or automotive engineering experience, in design & development of complex mechanical parts, preferably of chassis parts and systems

• You have actual professional working experience, also as an internship, of 2 years in time or more

• You have knowledge of general vehicle and mechanical design (structural mechanics, material engineering, frequency response analysis, production method/process, …)

• Knowledge and experience in vehicle dynamics is an asset

• Knowledge and experience with FMEA method is an asset

• Knowledge of advanced design solutions for chassis parts is an asset (FEA, topology optimisation, simulation of vehicle and part behaviour, …)

• Interest or experience in product styling (looks) design is an asset

• Hands-on vehicle (dynamics) evaluation skills are an asset

• You have excellent communication skills (both verbal & written)

• You are pro-active and persistent

• You are self-confident and proceed the job with own initiative

• You have an analytical approach & good problem-solving skills

• You are motivated to learn Toyota Production System and development way

• You have a cost and quality conscious mind with customer focus

• You have experience with CATIA v5 and FEM analysis are an asset

• Experience with machine learning tools (e.g. Python) is an asset
