Your team and your responsibilities

Team description

Toyota’s Research and Development (R&D) in Europe is responsible for the planning, development and production of attractive, superior quality cars matching our European customers’ taste and requirements. Our local R&D team aims to strengthen the Toyota brand in Europe.

TME Powertrain Power Electronics Design team is responsible for:

  • Specification setting: definition of functional & performance requirements w.r.t. new vehicle and powertrain system needs
  • Design of electric power converters (Inverter, DCDC converter, On-board charger). Our team’s task is to manage electric and system design for application on our future electrified vehicles
  • Supplier design management: align our unit suppliers’ standard designs with our internal design standards
  • Define required hardware and control software modifications to accommodate our specific system control design philosophies

Your responsibilities

You will contribute to TOYOTA’s Powertrain system improvement for the European market and support our shift to electrification.

As a design engineer in the Powertrain Design Div., your main responsibility will be the development of Powertrain power conversion units with a focus on On-board charger, 12V DCDC converter and motor inverter. You will initially focus on “new mobility” electric vehicle projects.

    • During specification phase you will set unit & system technical requirements for inverter, DCDC converter, and charger to prepare for sourcing in co-operation with our Purchasing Dept.
    • After sourcing you will drive the development process for localized parts. You need strong engineering skills to support our suppliers in their development. You will make sure the development is finished on time and meets all of Toyota's quality requirements. For parts developed in Japan, you are the liaison between our mother divisions in TMC and other European parties (assembly plants, suppliers)
    • During the evaluation phases, you will collaborate with our vehicle evaluation team to confirm whether your design is meeting all functional & performance requirements. You will validate the unit evaluation results provided by our suppliers.
    • Finally, you will make sure mass-production parts achieve their expected performance and support the plant in the assembly preparation process involving your components.

Your Profile

We are looking for graduates or professionals with a few years’ experience in power electronics design.

For a TME Engineer position we target recent University Graduates (0-5 years experiences)

  • Master in Power-electronics / Electrical engineering.

Specialisation in Automotive is an asset.

  • Understanding power electronic control strategies.
  • Able to perform basic engineering calculations (Electrical, FEM, etc).
  • Able to understand, analyze and make technical drawings & specifications.
  • You are fluent in English (TME’s business language)
  • You can manage your own job and time and can work in a close relationship with engineers within the Toyota organisation and European suppliers.
  • Open personality, able to work independently, hands-on mentality with an out-of-box thinking mindset.
  • Required computer skills: 3D DWG software (e.g. Catia/Pro-E or other), MS tools (Word, Excel, Power-point). Any others are an asset.
