Team description

 

The European & Government Affairs (EGA) division is responsible for representing the company and its interests by engaging with the European institutions, NGOs, Trade Associations, and Think Tanks, on subject matters relevant to the automotive industry.

 

EGA seeks to positively contribute to the EU’s policy and regulatory process and national political developments. As the Commission is consolidating its economic and green transition plan focussing on EU competitiveness, there is an enormous momentum for organizations and companies such as Toyota to engage with EU institutions in Brussels and to play a role in the shaping of the new economy which will have a huge impact on its business. Looking at the transport sector, the demand for mobility and individual transport is changing due to climate emergency and progressive electrification. The European transport sector faces the great challenge of transitioning to zero emission, ensuring consumer confidence while maintain competitiveness and contributing to economic growth.

 

Your responsibilities

  • You monitor, analyse and report European legal developments and insights related to energy, transport and vehicle technology which affect Toyota’s strategies in Europe.
  • You actively contribute to identify, analyse, and report on activities on the part of Government departments, political parties, think-tanks, pressure groups, business associations and NGOs; you initiate working-level meetings to sustain networks and collect insights.
  • You collect and report on respective political positions at Member States level (and EU institutions) and liaise with our respective sales and manufacturing units in Europe.
  • You lead the development and approval of company positions on the key European legislative files.
  • You develop and manage existing relations with Commission officials and MEPs to support Toyota stance on relevant topics initiated by European institutions. You coordinate meetings with Commission officials and Members of European Parliament for EGA team. Monitor EU Parliamentary reports, debates, questions, committee enquiries, statements, and regulations relevant to our key corporate topics; you contribute to the drafting of Parliamentary amendments.
  • You represent Toyota in working groups of ACEA or other business associations Toyota is part of, contributing and making sure Toyota position is considered and included in the association position.
  • You lead and coach a team of enthusiast professionals in EU lobbying

Your Profile

  • You are fluent in English (TME’s business language), any other European language is an asset
  • You have a University degree or equivalent with specialisation on EU Affairs
  • You have a minimum 5 years’ experience in the EU bubble, preferably in similar position in multinational company, EU institution or business association.
  • You have an excellent understanding of EU decision making process and Governmental Affairs practice
  • You have a genuine interest for public policy, regulation-making, and international politics.
  • A Technical background and/or understanding of automotive technology is a preference factor.
  • You have highly developed communication, network development and negotiation skills, you excel in leading in cross-divisional activities, have a diplomatic mindset and high ethical standards.
  • You are dynamic, efficient, accurate, objective driven and you can work independently.
  • You are willing to travel in Europe on a regular basis: <40%
